St Albans property runs from medieval cores to new-build en-suites, and each needs different work behind the tiles. You get the right preparation, one fixed price and a two-year tiling guarantee.

St Albans is the southern edge of our patch and part of our regular Hertfordshire run alongside Harpenden and Hitchin. We cover the city centre and the conservation streets around it, Marshalswick, Fleetville, Jersey Farm, St Stephens, Chiswell Green, London Colney and the surrounding AL postcodes.
Free quote visits are usually arranged within the same week, and full bathrooms and kitchens are priced as one fixed figure after we have seen the room. Smaller booked jobs are typically £60 per hour, and 24/7 emergency call-outs for leaks, blockages and loss of water are charged at £120 per hour, on a phone that is always monitored.
St Albans has an unusually wide age range of housing for one city. There are genuinely historic buildings and conservation-area terraces in and around the centre where bathrooms have been fitted into rooms never designed for water. There is extensive Victorian and Edwardian terracing in Fleetville and along the Camp, interwar and post-war semis in Marshalswick and St Stephens, and modern developments at London Colney and Napsbury. Loft conversions and rear extensions are everywhere, which is why so much of our AL work involves en-suites and second bathrooms rather than a single main room.
The jobs we take on most in St Albans: full refits in older terraces where the floor and walls need proper preparation, en-suites in conversions where drainage and ventilation were an afterthought, wet rooms and level-access showers, retiling failed showers back to a tanked substrate, and general plumbing and drainage on old, altered pipework.

Owen coordinates the electrician, tiler, Gas Safe engineer and carpenter — you are not project-managing four firms around your own house.
£2 million public liability, one year on parts and plumbing, two years on tiling, fixed price agreed up front.
Old buildings, altered layouts and heavy conversion activity produce a consistent set of issues across AL1 to AL4.
In older St Albans houses the bathroom is often a converted bedroom, box room or rear addition with breathable solid walls and a floor built for furniture, not a filled bath. Sealing the whole room in the wrong way traps moisture. The correct approach is to tank the wet zones properly and let the rest of the room handle moisture as it was designed to.
Conversions frequently push waste a long way to reach a stack, with barely any fall or with a macerator covering the gap. The result is slow drainage, noise and smells. We check the run and the vent arrangement at quote stage so the layout is deliverable rather than optimistic.
Hard water plus decades-old supply pipe means scaled bores and weak flow, which people blame on the shower. We check pressure and flow before specifying, so you get a valve the house can actually feed.
Internal en-suites and shower rooms in converted spaces often have undersized or badly ducted extraction. Moisture then condenses in the roof structure or on cold external walls. Correct sizing, rigid ducting and an external terminal solves it — and it is cheap compared with replacing damaged plaster and timber later.
01
We come and look at the actual room, check the floor, the walls, the pipework and the ventilation, and listen to what the room needs to do.
02
One written price with a realistic timescale. The only caveat is a genuinely unforeseen issue behind the walls or floor.
03
Old suite out, pipework and cabling run, floors levelled and strengthened, wet zones tanked — the work you never see again.
04
Our own tiler sets the walls and floor, then the suite, valves, lighting and extraction go in and get tested properly.
05
Sealed, cleaned, snagged with you present, then guaranteed — one year on parts and plumbing, two years on tiling.
